Food Fog

I have spent a lot of my life in a food fog – one of my own creation and design.  A food fog can be anything from taking the edge off an uncomfortable emotion to a downright self-induced coma!  A food fog helps to deal with negative thoughts to replace something we don’t want to think about and emotions we don’t want to feel.  Food fog can be a good escape while still functioning.

All that being said, I am grateful for being on track for quite awhile.  I go through times where I get off track and even a roadmap doesn’t help me find the way to get back on track.  The more I exercise my “no, it isn’t worth it” muscle, I create a wave of momentum day after day to STAY on track.  Rather than give in to the emotional eating screaming with a loud speaker in my ear, I deal.  I deal with whatever is going on.  Is it easier to give in to emotional eating?  In the past I would have responded with a resounding YES but now, I can honestly say that it isn’t.  Maybe for that quick, brief fleeting moment it is but the consequences, fallout and decrease in self-esteem and confidence, definite NO.

Recovery from morbid obesity and the mindset has been a process of nine years (surgery in 2001).  Yes, the incisions have long ago healed but the food issues have been a process.  I can see how far I’ve come and I am grateful for where I am today.
