To Eat Before Or After…That Is The Question

Many fitness experts now consider post-exercise eating one of the most crucial factors influencing a workout’s results. Their recommendation: Eat a small meal or snack as soon as possible after exercising, and make sure the meal includes both complex carbohydrates and protein.

The ideal is to eat within 30 minutes of your workout, but if you don’t eat within that time frame, aim for as soon as you possibly can.

The reasons behind this strategy: It is during the several hours after exercise that your muscles respond to the exertion, becoming stronger or more aerobic (depending on whether your workout has been strength-training or cardiovascular). By eating during this important window of opportunity, you’re giving your muscles the nutrients they need to rebuild.

Honestly, the best time to exercise is when you will do it.  The statistics may tell you that morning or evening is the best time.  However, what is the best time for you is when you will exercise regularly and consistently.  Here’s a concept – when do YOU like to exercise?  When is the best time for you and your schedule?   The answer to those questions as to when you like to exercise and what works best for your schedule are what is most important.  The answers that are personal to you are all that matters.

For me, I like to exercise when as few people as possible are in the gym.  I don’t like waiting for equipment or having people talk to me when all I want to do is work out.  I have a treadmill at home which is great.  I work out when it is best in my schedule.  Sometimes, depending on my appointments and meetings, I prefer exercising early before things get into full swing.  Other times, I like working out in the evenings.  Depending on the weather, I’ll take walks in the day AND in the evening.  So, the answer for me is dependent on my schedule and how I feel.  When do I want to do it?  As long as I exercise and am active in some way, that is what matters to me.

Rather than go by the statistics and research along with the opinions of many experts, go by what is best for you.  After all, what matters is what is best for you!!

Do NOT Have Weight Loss Surgery If…

Do NOT have weight loss surgery if:

1.  You’re looking for an easy way out.  Weight loss surgery is not an easy way out of obesity.  You are commiting to changing your life in the way you eat, level of activity, and overcoming the reasons that drive you to emotionally eat.

2.  You aren’t willing to look at your life.  We did not become morbidly obese because we are hungry.  We have issues with food and eat for reasons other than physical hunger.  Success from weight loss surgery comes from embracing your own personal coping strategies for emotions and your life.

3.  You believe the answer to your weight and compulsive eating are finding just the right protein powder or protein shake recipe.  Weight loss surgery is not about the food.  True, immediately after you’ve had surgery it is about learning what choices to make and what works best for you and your body, and new digestion.  Once you’ve determined your food plan, the real work starts.  The real work consists in personal development and growth, along with creating a life that nurtures you without the aid and misuse of food.

4.  You don’t want to make changes in your behavior and life.  You have to change your habits to experience permanent weight loss.  You can’t expect to keep the same habits for different results.  If you want different results, you must do it differently.  If you hang on to the habits that make you heavy, you’ll stay heavy.  If you want to be successful in weight loss surgery, you need to ditch those old habits and create new healthy ones.  The healthy ones will cause you to lose weight, maintain the weight loss and not experience weight regain.

5.  You expect the surgery to do all the work.  It won’t.  It is a great tool just as a hammer is in your toolbox.  Just as you must use the hammer, you have to use the tool of your weight loss procedure.  Weight loss surgery is not a cure.  It is a tool to restrict the amount of food you eat and, with some procedures, the types of food you can eat.  You must choose to use the tool.  Success in weight loss surgery is a choice.  A choice you make daily.

There are many journeys to weight loss success.  For me, weight loss surgery worked.  Weight loss surgery success is enhanced substantially with the use of a coach.  Coaching is a tool to increase your opportunities for post-op success.  If you’re willing to look at your life and nurture yourself and your life without the numbing escape of food, weight loss surgery is an excellent tool in overcoming morbid obesity and living your fullest life.

Is Your 2008 All You Want?

It’s March…the first quarter of 2008 is almost complete.  Let’s review 2008 so far.  Is your 2008 great?  Are you still following any “resolutions” or changes that you wanted to make back in January?  If so – Great!  If not, what do you need to do?  Are you making the progress incorporating changes and losing weight as you’d like?

You are not alone.  Weight loss coaching is exciting and brings results.  If you keep doing the same thing you’ve always done and expect different results – that’s the definition of insanity.  Think different….do something different.  Anyone committed to results and reaching their goals such as athletes and any professional has a coach.  You should too!  Give it a try.  What do you have to lose except weight??!!!

Weight Loss Coaching Works

People stick with their diet and fitness plans better if they change their eating habits and exercise by partnering with someone.   As we know, it is difficult to make changes much less make them permanently.  To have your own coach work with you to create momentum and reach your goals enhances your success.

There are many reasons for this.  Others can motivate us on those days when we need it, appreciate our successes, and offer advice and ideas for achieving our goals.  In terms of weight loss, it can also be immensely helpful to have a weight loss coach that has went through what you’re going through.

You don’t have to go it alone without your own one-on-one support system.  Make your weight loss plan easier and more successful, join forces with a weight loss coach.

Do you need directions?

Do you know what you want?  Do you know where you are going?  Are you moving forward or staying put wishing that you were moving forward in your life?  It isn’t enough to want something more or something different in your life.  It isn’t enough to want to lose weight without a plan.  Would you set out in your car, gas tank full, and say you want to go for a trip without preparation or a map for your journey?

Start off with a written statement of your destination.  If you are in New York and want to go to San Diego, would you just drive down the street and hope you’ll get there eventually?  You’d create a plan state by state, highway by highway, and an approximate timeline of where you’ll be when.  Do the same thing for yourself.  What do you weigh today?  What is your goal weight?  What do you need to do to get from where you are to where you want to be.  There are pit stops, speedbumps, and beautiful sceneries along the way.  Enjoy your trip to weight loss success.  Create a plan!  Design a blueprint for your plan in weight loss coaching.

We can design a plan for you that includes your likes and takes into consideration your dislikes.  Together, in weight loss coaching, we can map out your plan for weight loss and a plan for your overall success in your life.

All the best,
Cathy

Is Weight Loss Coaching For You?

Why weight loss coaching?  Why not?  If you are like me, I tried every diet that came out, stapled my ear to stop my desire to overeat, every diet program, and tried them all again and again and again.  There were parts of diet programs that I liked and worked for me.  I always thought if I could create my own program that included the components that helped me plus have my own meeting one-on-one with my diet program leader, I could be successful.  I wanted a program created and designed special for me.  We are all different and unique, right?  Why not have a program of our own?  Unfortunately, this type of personalized program customized just for me didn’t exist.

All those years ago that I considered how great a program of my very own could be, here it is!   I am a weight loss coach.  I provide the exact service for my clients, and I can do the same with you.   What do you have to lose except excess weight?  A program of your own makes more sense than a staple in your ear.

In your mind, think of a videotape of your life as it is right now.  Now, visualize your life as you would like it to be?  If you could create your own life that includes your hopes, dreams, and allowing you to live out all of your possibilities and potential, that is what weight loss and life coaching is.  What are the differences in that gap between right now and as you’d like your life to be?  The differences in that gap are the goals and what we would focus on in your coaching.  Together, we will create a personalized program for you to achieve weight loss, weight maintenance, and design the lifethat you are meant to live and enjoy.

As your coach, I will stand for you.  I will hold your goals, hopes, dreams, beliefs, and aspects of your life in a sacred place of trust.  We will create a plan of action for you to attain the weight loss and life that you envision for yourself.  A coaching relationship is very special and unique.  I understand, I’ve been there and done that throughout almost my entire life.  Now, as your weight loss coach, I can help you lose weight and gain your life and health.

All the best,
Cathy
