Where Are You On The List?
Our lives are full of lists. To Do Lists, various Checklists, and Grocery Lists, etc. An important list we all have that is rarely written down, yet does exist and one we live our lives from, is our Priority List. What is your Priority List? Who is on your list and what important priorities are taking up a space? For many of us, our Priority List might look something like this:
3. Work, business colleagues, and boss
6. Community commitments
7. Maintenance and repair of home
8. Oil changed, tired rotated on car
9. Social Club Meetings
10, 11, 12 . . . .
What very important priority is missing on this list? YOU! You are a priority in your life! If you don’t take care of your needs and yourself, you won’t be at your best for the other priorities contained on your list.
When we are flying and the flight attendants are reviewing the emergency procedures, we are instructed in case of emergency to put the oxygen mask over our faces first. The reason for this is because unless we take care of our needs and ourselves, we cannot help anyone else. Your instincts might be to help a child, family member, loved one, friend, or someone else sitting around you on the plane. If something happens to you, then you aren’t able to be available to assist someone else. Same way with Priority Lists. You may merely show up but you aren’t truly available and your best self to those other priorities on your list.
Put yourself on your Priority List as #1. Take care of yourself as a main priority in your own life. You will be the best you can be for yourself and those other priorities too.
All the best,
