Your Level Of Motivation and Contact Lenses
I know that patience is a virtue but it isn’t exactly one of my strong ones. I wish I had more patience but it isn’t something that is a natural for me.
This is evident again to me recently. Almost a week ago I started wearing contact lenses. I’ve needed to wear something to correct my vision for a few years. The majority of my life, I have enjoyed excellent vision – better than 20/20. So, when I hit the 40’s, my vision started becoming more of an issue. There are many things that you can life with and accept the impact of age but I’ve kicked and screamed about my vision.
I decided that a good compromise between my eyes and my age would be glasses to wear only when I worked. Working on the computer all day takes its toll on your vision. I then had to turn to progressive lenses. Progressive lenses are bifocals but I wouldn’t allow my eye doctor to use the “b” word of bifocals. I thought progressive lenses made me sound younger and more chic LOL!
My cool, younger version of my glasses started not working for me either. Again, I went to the eye doctor dreading what came next. I’d tried numerous times through the years mono vision, other types of contacts but I couldn’t put them in or take them out. A problem for a contact lens wearer!! This time I was motivated. I was at the fork in the road for my vision of whether to wear glasses all the time (not just at home but in public too – argh!) or contacts. It is amazing what motivation can do for us. I tried contact lenses and what do you know – my very first time putting them in resulted in only three attempts. The next time, I put them in the first attempt! Drum roll please…….I am now a contact lens wearer.
I actually felt it was a big success. I shared my fabulous news with others and they didn’t see the need for a ticker tape parade like I did. Doesn’t matter because it is my success. I tackled something that for years I had not been able to do. I probably tried contacts six or seven times through the years but the need, desire and motivation weren’t there. Now, it was and I did it effortlessly.
Now, you may be asking…..what do contact lenses have to do with weight loss and getting back on track? Everything! Need, desire and motivation to lose weight and stay on track are not only necessary but a requirement. The need probably is there if you want to lose weight….the desire is probably also there but at what level? The motivation is key.
If you are struggling to lose weight and stay on track, ask yourself the following questions:
1. On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the most you’ve ever wanted anything, what is your level of need to lose weight according to your assessment?
2. On a scale of 1 to 10, what is your level of desire to lose weight? In other words, how bad do you want it?
3. On the same scale of 1 to 10, what is your motivation?
If your number for motivation is less than a 10, what would it take for you to move to a 10? If your number is less than an 8, you will continue to go back/forth and have good days and bad days when it comes to staying on track. You need to be at the same fork in your life as I was about my vision. Wearing glasses all the time was worse than putting in/taking out the contacts. When I attempted it, no big deal.
If you are at the fork in your own health and weight loss, what are your options? You could choose and accept where you are with your weight and health and stop putting yourself through losing weight and changing your life. Alternatively, you could take the other path of the fork and obtain the motivation of a level 10 and go for it.
If I can wear contact lenses, you can lose weight and stay on track!!
