Live Your Dash
I was in my advanced coaching practicum class last night. In coaching the client that is part of the class, she was talking about a concept that I’d heard about years ago. It was a wonderful reminder for me personally. I’ve thought of it ever since our class.
Isn’t it interesting how you can hear something years ago yet you hear it again and it has a totally different impact on you? For me, I think it shows how far you’ve come in your personal development and growth. It shows the power of change and allows you to celebrate where you are in your life now.
When someone passes away or even reflects their birth to the present, you list your year of birth followed by a dash and either list “present” or the date of someone’s death. What is important is the dash. The year of your birth and either the present or date of death or merely markers of time. What matters is what you do in the dash. The dash represents all you’ve done in your life from birth. The dash is your life.
Here’s the example:
Your year of birth – Present or year of death. 1970 – Present. The “-” is your life. It starts from the moment you’re born to the present. What you do with the dash is how you’re living and what you’re doing in your life. The dates are chronological information, however, the dash is what matters and is meaningful.
Live your dash to the fullest – every day.
