Why do we want to lose weight?

I was talking with a close friend of mine about weight loss.  Why do we really want to lose weight?  For many of us, we focus on the scale.  What that little number says when we step on the scale is given so much power as to how we feel about ourselves.  Myself included!!  I strongly believe that weight loss and weight loss surgery is about so much more than the stupid scale.  So that brought me to the question as to why we want to lose weight.  Is it for the number on the scale?  What does that number mean to into your life?  What does that number represent to you?

Just as corporations and businesses have a vision and/or mission statement, what about the same for weight loss?  Businesses create vision and mission statements that speaks for them to their customers.  The statements define who they are and what their business is about.  Vision and mission statements are brief but very direct and descriptive.  In the case of vision and mission statements, less is more.

So, why not for weight loss too?  For me, the number on the scale isn’t motivating because it isn’t enough.   What does weight loss mean to me in my life?  I’m not quite sure of all the answers to that but I do know it is much more than about the scale.  I envision in my own personal weight loss statement, verbage that is short and to the point but reminds me of the real and bigger picture as to why losing weight is important to me.  Hint – It is much more than about the stinking scale so the word “scale” won’t be in it!  LOL.

When I went through my foundational coach training, we had an entire section on Inside Out coaching.  Part of that was creating our life purpose.  If corporations and businesses have vision and mission statements; as a coach, I work with my clients on inside out, so why not a weight loss purpose or weight loss statement?  I love it.  I think this will be a fantastic strategy for my life and my weight management in the future along with getting/staying back on track.

I will post more tomorrow as I think about this more.  I was so excited about this that I wanted to share it on my blog today.  I woke up early this morning and it was one of the very first things I thought about.

To my upcoming weight loss purpose statement (or whatever it turns out to be named), WOO HOO!!
