Maximize Energy; Minimize Weight
We focus on our goals of losing weight and maintenance. Another focus needs to be on our energy. Losing weight is something that happens as a benefit of improving your energy. Your physical energy but also the energy and zest you bring to your life.
The reality is that when you focus on your energy and engage in strategies that increase your energy and make you feel great… you naturally lose weight. Have you ever been so absorbed in something that you lost track of time and lost yourself in the joy of the moment.
To maximize your energy, here are some tips:
Eat breakfast. By eating breakfast you kick start your metabolism and increase your energy but also causes you to burn more calories, which helps you lose weight.
Drinking adequate water (64 ounces per day) increases your metabolism and helps you lose more weight. Also, research suggests that drinking cold water further increases your metabolism because the body burns more calories as it warms the water to body temperature.
When you reduce your levels of stress and create calm energy your body releases less stress hormones including cortisol. Cortisol increases your appetite and causes you to crave sweets and simple carbohydrates. It also causes the accumulation of fat around the mid section experts refer to as a cortisol roll or stress fat. This is NOT an advertisement for those diet pills that say they’ll reduce your cortisol and disappear excess weight. Instead reduce stress, increase your energy and accomplish the same results for free.
By not getting enough sleep not only makes you tired but also elevates your levels of cortisol and affects your bodies ability to process glucose. When you focus on your energy and sleep more, your body produces normal levels of cortisol and operates more efficiently and effectively. Even if you think you can get by on less sleep, give it a try. I think you’ll be surprised by how much better you’ll feel and more energy you have by getting more sleep.
If you are able, exercise in the morning or even do some light stretches, take light walks after meals increase your metabolism, causes you to burn more calories and increases your energy. Actually, whether you exercise in one time slot or throughout the day, anytime you exercise or move your body increases your metabolism and increase energy levels.
Eat smaller meals throughout the day rather than two or three large meals will keep your energy furnace going, increase your metabolism, and help you burn more calories.
Lastly, one of the biggest ways to increase your energy is to practice positive thinking. By having positive thinking, rather than stinking negative thinking, will reduce stress and levels of cortisol in your blood and increase levels of your brain’s natural anti-depressant, serotonin. When you think and feel good you are more likely to be active which also helps you lose weight.
Expand your focus from only losing weight to focus on getting fit, feel great, increase your physical and mental energy, create a lifestyle filled with positive energy. When you find your energy, the weight will come off naturally and most importantly it will stay off.
Here’s to your health and your energy!
