Those Dreaded Plateaus
Nearly every weight loss surgery client that I work with gets to a point where the weight loss slows or, even worse, stops, stalls and comes to a screaching halt. Even if you don’t start regaining, thinking “Why bother?” it can be frustrating to see your efforts slow or stop, especially if you haven’t reached your goal weight. Welcome to your plateau!
From personal experience, I know how frustrating and aggrevating plateaus are. Did you know that reaching a plateau is actually a sign that you’re doing the right things and are on the right track to your weight loss goals. In reaching your weight loss goals, plateaus are pitstops along the way to your finish line.
Plateaus are the time that your body takes to readjust to its new composition after a chunk of weight. Your body accomplishes this by slowing down your metabolism and becomes quite stubborn to the remaining excess weight. Outlast the stubborn plateau. Now is not the time to go into “Why bother?” mode. Don’t give up! Stay positive and stay on track.
Especially during a plateau, weight yourself less frequently. Your body is changing in ways that don’t show up on the scale. Check your clothes as to if they are getting looser on you. Be assured that your body is getting ready to continue on the losing streak. Be patient and stubborn yourself and outlast plateaus all the way to the finish line of reaching your goal weight!
